Veronica Ruth Diaz was born to Alfonso and Grace Diaz, on October 1st, 1956. Even as a baby, it was apparent that her big brown eyes were full of wonder and aspirations. As she became older, those aspirations became realities.
Veronica’s involvement with the community started when her children were young. She was involved with the Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts, ran Golden State and PAL basketball, Peace Camp, and volunteered as a teacher’s assistant. When her kids got older, she joined the Montebello Citizens Patrol, YMCA Board, Arts and Culture Commission, Montebello Soroptimist, Montebello Historical Society, and so much more. On any given weekend she could be found at fundraisers, charity walks, campaigns, and so much more. Veronica loved her community, and passionately worked towards enriching her surroundings. She became a mentor to many.
Veronica also took on the title of business owner, when she opened her coffeehouses: Espresso Cafe, the Garden Cafe, and lastly, The Daily Brew. She wanted to provide a hub where local artists, musicians, poets, students, seniors...everyone really, could come together to build community.
While Veronica wore many hats, she was also a compassionate and caring friend with a heart of gold. Her sister, brothers, cousins, and friends would all agree, that if there was a bottle of wine to be poured, and jazz to be heard, she was there. Reserved when need be, and vocal when necessary, she was also full of jokes and laughs.
Though her children are biased, they would say her greatest role was that of mother and grandmother. She guided her kids and grand kids with love and support. She was and is their foundation and inspiration, and they know that she will continue to support them now, and forever.
Veronica entered into eternal rest surrounded by her loving family on Saturday August 24, 2019, in Pasadena, California.
Veronica will be dearly missed, but she will live on through all of her family and friends. She is survived by her children Jessica, Sean, Tiffany, and Jason, and her grandchildren Daniel, Eric, and Jaxon. Veronica left footprints in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
There will be a Celebration of Life in honor of Veronica at the Montebello Senior Center "Upstairs South" on Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
