William Allen (Bill) Nims peacefully departed the morning of January 27, 2020 in his Harbor City home surrounded by his family.

He was second of three sons born to Stanley Quay and Louise Ann Ray Nims. The family had lived in Eastern Iowa where he attended one room school houses in and around the area. Ultimately he earned a Juris Doctor Degree although he did not practice law.

He is survived by his daughters, Melanie Spaulding of Gold Canyon AZ, Kandy White of Harbor City CA, Kristin Price of Blackwell OK and sons Michael Nims of Riverside, David Sisler of Elk Grove. In addition, he is survived by nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He served two years in the US Army during the Korea conflict. Upon discharge he returned to Iowa for the following 4 years and then relocated to Phoenix AZ where he lived for a few years and where his son and daughter were born. Later he moved to Cleveland OH and then to San Pedro CA.

After a long career serving as CFO for California Milling he ventured out and was co-owner of a food distributing business located in Commerce. He ran his business for over 20 years and retired in 2007.

He had an adventurous spirit and his list of accomplishments are many. He owned and rode horses, he captained sail and power boats, he took flying lessons and ended up owning his own plane which he flew cross country twice, he loved motorcycles and classic cars and he rode his Honda Goldwing to Alaska and Iowa.

He was a member of the Elks, American Legion, VFW, and Eagles. He readily accepted requests for his time and talent. He served as the Chairman of the Montebello Chamber of Commerce, member of the Beverly Hospital Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Salvation Army Advisory Board and President of the Nims Family Association.

His wife and family were his most cherished. He was so proud of them as they made their way through life. He and Susan enjoyed travel and their homes in Catalina, Rancho Mirage and Palm Desert.

Bill died a happy man! He did not know how high UP could be, but he pursued the limit over and over again. And now he knows.
